Very often, I work through ideas in paper before making them in clay. I work with a fluidity and freedom that doesn’t always come as naturally with clay where the commitment is more intense. These paper works were a stepping stone to clay ones. They were satisfying to make because they were purely for pleasure. As Einstein said, “play is the highest form of research.”
