There’s something about spoons –– soft & round –– that I find very appealing. They’re a vessel for soups, stews and vanilla ice cream, all comforting foods. Is our fondness for them somehow connected to the fact that our first tastes of solid food come mashed up on a spoon? I wanted to make spoons that are useful, and ornamental, too –– something we can treasure for years to come. These were the first spoons I made, mounted on a hand-made terracotta tile with a custom ash frame.
